2003 Odyssey stuck brake pedal

2003 Odyssey stuck brake pedal

I recenlty replaced the brake switch at the pedal (couldn't get lights
or out of park without using the emergency release on the column).
Obviously there isn't much to go wrong on this repair, but
coincidentally or not, I now have an intermitent situation where the
brake pedal remains in a partially depressed position after getting
into gear and movement can only be achieved under the drag of the
brake. My wife claims that this occurs while at cruise occassionally
resulting in the van shuttering violently. It is only resovled at
cruise by her lifting the pedal upward with her foot to relieve the
pressure.

I got it resolved this morning, but have no idea how. Cycled the car
on and off, forward to reverse a few times, removed cap to the fluid
reservoir, then it went back to normal.

I have checked for obstruction at the pedal and for proper
installation of the switch, nothing. It seems to be hydraulic like a
suction.

I appreciate any thoughts. (ABS, Master Cylinder, etc.....)

Is the brake pedal spring still connected and not broken?

Yes. I just double checked it. My wife said that it occurred again
today. She left from a dead stop, no problems or dragging of the
brakes. She gets about a mile down the road at 30 mph and the car
starts to drag a bit. She puts her foot under the pedal and pries it
upward and everything is OK again. Was kind of slight today and the
pedal traveled about 1/4 inch upward.

Other times the pedal never seems to return from the mostly depressed
position when initiating a trip, and it has assumed the partially
depressed position on the freeway without any tap of the brake to
initiate the pedal in that direction.

It would be worth noting that the pressure in the brake lines seems to
be higher than before as well. The pedal is very stiff and sensitive
unlike before this problem began.

Very puzzling as this all started immediately with the replacement of
that simple brake switch.

When you press on the pedal with the fingertips of your hand, does it
travel smoothly all the way without any sticky spots, no matter how hard
you push?

Is there a teeny-tiny bit of really easy travel before pushing effort
suddenly gets a lot harder?

Travels smoothly but gets stiff early in the process. Yes, tiny amount
of easy travel.

The brake light switch is adjustable. If it's set too far down, it will
prevent the master cylinder pushrod from returning home all the way. Right
now I suspect it may be incorrectly adjusted.

You can try screwing it back out until the problem fixes itself or the
brake lights no longer turn off anymore.

That makes total sense, I didn't know it was adjustable. Thanks for
the help, I will be surprised if that doesn't solve the problem.
