Putting it in gear might have helped, along with turning the wheels
before shutting it off.

OTOH, it does show how clean she keeps her car. If my Miata went into a
pool right now, the water would not remain that clear. ;-)

My older brother called me two nights ago and told me about this.
Apparently that poor Miata belonged to his neighbor, who sold it about
6 months ago to his brother-in-law and wife. What the photos don't
really show is the damage to the fence around the pool.

If I owned that house, I might look into a sturdy metal replacement
fence. The people are in warm-weather clothing, the owners could have
easily been using the pool when it happened.

They were all actually quite lucky since nobody was even injured.

This will just be an interesting insurance claim, nothing overly tragic,
especially since it was a red Miata. ;-)

Re: Ooops...

The lack of shown damage to the fence caused a bit of "PhotoShop"
discussions around this. What appears damaged in the first photo DOES look
to be a bit small for a Miata to run through.

Re: Ooops...

after seeing those, i now see that it did roll through that small opening
and took part of the fence with it. must have rolled backward to rest
against the wall once it hit the bottom... as it start to slide to the deep
end. poor little thing doesn't know how to swim. if it were wearing one of
those Styrofoam bubbles it would probably have kept its head above the
water.

We may be missing the point here, the question is:

Is this an acceptable method of washing a Miata?

Vote here:

_____ Yes

_____ No

Sure. It's the "DeepCleaning(tm)" method.

Re: Ooops...

i find this funny. i don't see it like that. it seems that your
interpretation of the photo was that the car drove through the opening of
the fence and then fell into the pool but that doesn't make sense to me.
give the position of the car, with the rear up against one wall, i believe
that the car probably rolled in to the pool backwards and came to rest with
the back bumper touching the wall. that would mean that the broken fence
would be on the other side of the pool... the side where the crane is
positioned. that is my 2¢ anyway.
