OT: Another newsgroup NUT

What's with this idiot posting (apparently) Bible quotes in everybody's
name?

It seems to be only on this group as far as I can see and it is always a Re:
Now to try filtering this out. I'm all for bible study but put it in the
appropriate group...

If your newsreader supports filtering on the NNTP-Posting-Host: header, then
drop anything showing 'interware.hu' in that header.

A more drastic method would be to drop anything with 'googlegroups, com ' in the
Message-ID: header. The vast majority of Usenet spam these days is coming
through Google Groups accounts -- and Google doesn't care, and isn't willing
to do one damn thing to stop it.

Unfortunately Outlook Express does not allow filtering on headers. There is
only a very limited set of filters available :-(

Of course it does. Some headers, anyway, like From: -- it has to look at that,
for the 'Block Sender' function to work. It also filters on the Subject:
header.

But it doesn't filter on either of the ones you need here (NNTP-Posting-Host:
or Message-ID:).

You could download a copy of NewsProxy (also known as Nfilter) and configure
that -- it *will* filter on those headers, and it's compatible with Outlook
Express.

Nice suggestion - Thanks.

Any idea if that will also work with Yproxy that I already use?

Probably not -- you'd be trying to use two proxies for the same service.

You can chain proxies. That's part of the design. I used to use an
SSL proxy chained with yProxy before they added SSL. You just might
have to get creative with the ports:

news reader 119<->119 Nfilter 118<->118 yProxy 119<->119 news server

If you know what I mean.

If you are using Outlook or OE you can set rules to block these jerks. I
only see the good guys.

Re: OT: Another newsgroup NUT

not only that but the douche is also emulating OP names and manually posting
these into the replies.

I reported this to Road Runner and today I don't see their
presence in any of the newsgroups. Maybe they killed him/them.
We can only hope.
