PLEASE HELP

i just bought a car yesturday 2000 maxima GLE..,it s got 121K...oil
changes done regulary, drives fine, this morning when i went to start
it up after a minute or 2 the RPM's dropped and went back up and
stalled, i restarted it and it did it again...i restrted it and it
stayed on this time but still RPM's still went down and almost died
but didnt, i dont know what it is...my brother said to unhook the
battery cable to see if its the alternator so while the car was
started i unhooked the red cable and left the black one on and it
stayed on so im guessing its not the alternator...any suggestions?
tune up? please help

Your brother is a COMPLETE IDIOT!
Your brother must work (or used to) at Pep-Boys.

The alternator wont stall the car, and disconnecting the battery while its
running is a sure invitation for electrical disaster.
What you did WILL damage the ECM,dash gauges, radio, alarm system....you might
have gotten lucky.
