?? about a new motherboard..
?? about a new motherboard..
Looking to build another computer. So far I am looking at an AMD 4000+ san
deigo (1mb l2). The only question I have is the motherboard. Whats the best
939 based m/b? I 'm looking at an Asus A8N32-sli deluxe and was wondering if
it's still the way to go? It's been a while since I've upgraded so this will
be a big jump from my athlon 1.6, and TI4600! btw I might be able to get a
7900 gtx with 512mb for about $200.00...

Is that a singlecore? I strongly suggest a dualcore cpu.

If I was building a new machine today, it would be an Intel C2D without
question.
ALL of my current machines are AMD Athlon64/X2 based right now. But at this
time, Intel has handed AMD it's ass when it comes to performance.
The Intel C2D really is that good.

I would have to agree.
I have used AMD for years, but at this current time, Intel Core2 Duo is the
way to go.
I am about to pull the trigger, on ordering an E6600/ Asus mb, and 2gb ddr2
ram, just trying to decide on the exact mb I want.

Another option is the Asrock Dual-Sata2 939 mobo. It offers AGP+Pci-E
and DDR on the same mobo. It is no longer offered for sale, but is
available on ebay etc., and I'm looking to buy one myself as an interim
solution. Its Vista compatibility isn't entirely clear but will probably
iron itself out once the os becomes a bit more mature. Reviews of it are
very positive.

I ran Vista beta on that mb with no problems. I did have the onboard sound
disabled though. I am getting a copy of Vista this week and it will be on
the same mb.

Indeed. I have 2 boxes now, a 4600+ and a C2D 6600. I had an 8800GTX
in the 4600 and it ran most of my games quite well. Put the 4600+ and
board in a secondary box and built a C2D. Performance on some of my
games literally doubled. GTL, GTR2 (particularly in changeable
weather) went through the roof. rFactor, was getting fps into the
300's.
If you can shell a few more bones, go a C2D right now.

Can you really tell a difference between 200 fps and 300? I know I can tell
the difference between $450.00 or $800.00, and right now 100fps doesn't seem
worth the extra threefitty...(just guesstimating) I could drop in another
7900gtx and go sli for that cash.. Does anyone know if the Asus a8n32-sli
deluxe is the best 939 mb or is there a more stable way (still using 939) to
go for the money?

Can you really tell a difference between 200 fps and 300? I know I can tell
the difference between $450.00 or $800.00, and right now 100fps doesn't seem

No, I can't tell the difference. However, when you're playing
something that is a lot more taxing on your system and the
difference between the two systems is one runs at 20fps and
the other 40, then the difference is obvious.
That's what it did for FSX.

No, I can't tell the difference. However, when you're playing
something that is a lot more taxing on your system and the
difference between the two systems is one runs at 20fps and
the other 40, then the difference is obvious.
That's what it did for FSX.

Ok, I'm an AMD man. Every machine in my house (except Laptops) are Athlon
64's or X2's.
With that said, the Intel Core 2 Duo (C2D in geekspeak) is kicking AMD's ass
right now. It is a REALLY good processor.
If I were building a new machine right now, it would be a C2D system, no
question.
Now, about the A8N32SLI-Deluxe. I have this board.
It is a nice board. Good stability. It is getting a bit long in the tooth
though as it's been out for around a year.
It is NOT perfect.
The biggest problem is the slot spacing. This is a x16 board and has two
x16 PCI slots for SLI configuration. Due to the way the slots are
positioned, even if you only use ONE video card, there's physically no way
to get more than ONE PCI card installed, even though there are slots for
more. It's just too cramped.
Since I have a Creative X-Fi Elite Pro, that left me with using the on-board
NIC. That's not necessarily bad, but I prefer to use Intel Gigabit cards.
There's just no way to fit it into the other PCI slot the way this board is
set up.
Keep that in mind...
The highest-end Intel C2D compatible board on the market right now is the
ASUS Striker. Problem is, the LIST price is $330 and resellers are gouging
and charging OVER retail. Even Newegg is screwing people, charging an
amazing $419 for this board!
I suspect this just makes things worse for you. Sorry :)

I do, and the situatin is a bit confusing.
The product page for the G25 says it is Vista compatible, but when you go to
the download page for the driver, it only goes up to Windows XP.
Same for the G15 Keyboard.
Where's the wingmanteam when you need them. It's a damned shame they shut
that goup down :(
