Marco -- Slowest Honda -- Behind Bourdais

Too bad for Marco that he showed up in Spain and tried to test in a
real series against real drivers. In a car that managed 4th, the best
Marco could achieve was 14th. He was even behind Bourdais who was dead
last earlier until Marco showed up.

He was even behind the Super Aguris. In a Honda

I bet Bourdais was glad Marco came by to show the pace of the IRL
drivers.

SeaBass did well considering the crap he was driving. He certainly could
have put the Honda through it's paces better than Marco.

Maybe but he should. He has a lot more experience in high HP aero cars on
road courses than Marco. I would consider both to have done well. Neither
had little if any F1 experience. Sea Bass I think might have had a little,
but it sure wasn't recent and in nothing resembling the current cars.
Neither had any recent knowledge of the tracks in any type of car.

The other thing I think that was likely is that neither was really being
considered for a ride in the first place.

Given the circumstances, I think Marco's effort was respectable. It was
nothing special or ground-breaking, but it wasn't rubbish either. It was
a one-day test - his first ever in an F1 car and his first time at
Jerez. I wouldn't read too much into his times.

The kid is a pretty decent road racer. He did very well in IPS at road
courses, but then again he didn't have any real competition. He fared
pretty well against the Penske and Ganassi juggernaut at the Glen before
a combination of a piss-poor passing attempt and a not-too-bright Eddie
Cheever took him out of the race. He ran well at Infineon, even if the
circumstances of his victory were quite dubious.

My take is that we haven't seen enough of his road racing chops to
either write him off or to hail him as a future icon. After the next two
years we should have a better idea of his capabilities. With da IRL
adding more street and road courses he'll have more opportunities to
show his hand.

FWIW - I think the last time he raced seriously against hot competition
was in Star Mazda, and he wasn't too impressive there. Respectable, but
not impressive. But we'll see as time goes on.

Clearly the series he participates in does not offer enough practice at
road racing. I think he has a lot of talent, but was pushed too far
too fast. A few years of seasoning and he may develop into a real
racer, but his best bet is a series that has more road race experience
if F1 is the direction he wants to go.

So far, Marco excels when he has a car that is prepared better than the
rest. Star's equal cars tend to make the real racers stand out, but he
may do well in the long run.

BTW, where is the dot unit? He seems to be strangely absent after
making a total fool of himself.

He seems to have made himself more vocal in r.a.s.f1. He won't last
long, though. The regs there have a great deal of experience dealing
with his ilk.

Don't be so sure. Sweeney had them falling all over themselves over the
definition and correct use of the word "most".
