Reigning Champ Car World Series champion Sebastien Bourdais enjoyed a
very productive three days of testing at Jerez in Spain this week,
giving the assembled F1 team bosses a good look at what they have
potentially missed out on.
Just weeks after conceding that his Formula One ambitions were
virtually over, Bourdais logged nearly 300 laps of the 4.423km Spanish
circuit on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday getting quicker and quicker
each time he took to the track in one of the 2006 Scuderia Toro Rosso
machines.
Although this week's test has been viewed as a one-off, the Frenchman
will have been pleased to finish the final day just two tenths of a
second slower than Ferrari tester Marc Gene and less than two second
behind pacesetter Lewis Hamilton's McLaren.
Bourdais' best time of the test came on Friday when he stopped the
clocks in an unofficial time of 1min 21.258secs, almost exactly four
years to the day since he last sat in an F1 car.
