OT - 2007 Lime Rock Park ScheduleI thought I might as well post the schedule since it is a wonderful
track that is adored by sports car racing fans, and this is the 50th
season of racing there. And, this is my 'home' track. :-)
May 19 - SCCA Mohawk Hudson Region Regional
May 25 - 28 - Grand Am Koni Challenge Series
June 16 - SCCA New England Region Regional
July 4 - SCCA New England Region Regional
July 6 7- American Le Mans Series Northeast Grand Prix
July 28 - SCCA Northern New Jersey Region National
August 11- SCCA Northern New Jersey Region Regional
August 17 -18 - Mohegan Sun NASCAR Busch East 200
August 31- Sept 3 - Rolex Vintage Festival Presented by BMW
September 29 - SCCA New York Region NARRC Run Offs
Even though they only mention Koni Challenge on the Grand-Am weekend, do
not fret - the Rolex GT cars will be there too. No DP's, though.
ALMS weekend is always a good one as well. Marshals love it since we're
treated wonderfully by the circus and those folks at IMSA run the race
very well. Methinks that it also draws the largest crowd of the year. Of
course, that equates to plenty of mischief in the campgrounds. I learned
that strolling through the camp grounds with your official credentials
and white marshals' garb can result in a great deal of free beer. :-D
I have not worked the NASCAR Busch East weekend, but I've been told it
is a pretty good spectator event. One marshal described it as big Spec
Racer Fords going at it - close racing all race long. We don't like
working that weekend as much since NASCAR is absolutely horrible at
officiating road races.
The Vintage Festival is well worth seeing. I was an idiot last year and
I forgot to bring my camera. The eye candy is unbelievable, even if most
of the cars end up being horribly under-driven come race-time. Last year
saw some real racers, though. There was this one fellow in an early-60's
Lotus F2 car who charged from dead-last on the grid to a very close 2nd.
And the Trans-Am reunion race (all late 60's early 70's muscle cars) was
an all-out brawl.
The SCCA events are open to the public, but are not really spectator
events. They are a blast to work at, though. Marshals and Officials get
to have a lot more fun on those weekends than the pro weekends. They do
offer some great racing in certain classes, too. Spec Miatas and Spec
Racer Fords always put on a fierce race at Lime Rock.
Anyhew, if you're in the NE you should stop up for an event. Better yet,
if you'd like to actually get involved in racing you can join the SCCA
and learn how to do neat things (grid, timing, flagging, etc.) and
REALLY enjoy the races.
