Read the article. It was Jos that said he didn't want to buy a ride.
That is totally different than bringing sponsorship to the table which
these days in almost every form of racing is expected. Hiro bought a
ride. Grandpa I think started Panasonic. Going out to a company with
a business deal, providing value for promotion of their company, being
able to speak well enough to be accepted as credible are now just part
of the skills needed to be a big time auto racer. Don't believe it.
Watch some of the old Racer X shows of the Rousch Gong show tryouts.
Much of what they put those through has nothing to do with driving a
race car.
Now today for the teams, the search for sponsors has shifted in my
opinion too much to the drivers and not so much to the teams. When
the teams have the sponsorship, they have control. When its the
driver, they are dependent on their performance to stay in business.
Jos not coming is something many track owners are glad to see, but I
could see he is probably looking to expand his horizons by now. He
has already been in every run off area, gravel trap and sand trap in
Europe and is likely bored with those. I suspect he wants to see the
ones in the US only did anyone tell him that in some places its
concrete he hits first??
