Any more grandiose press releases?

Any more grandiose press releases?

I sort of miss Chris Pook and his bubbly press releases about the worldwide
importance of CART.

And those town hall meetings were classic.

When is OWRS operating as CCWS formerly CART and formerly Powered By Ford
going to give us some more of that gateway to F1 stuff? I sort of miss
those pronouncements about the greatest variety of courses and the greatest
test of driver skills and hearing about the cherished Vanderbilt Cup or
whatever it was called.

All Rahal ever did was explain that the reason CART had no fans is because
their imaginary fans were too busy doing important things on the weekend to
be watching auto racing. That sort of logic almost begs the question of how
any form of auto racing exists and thrives since most of it does take place
on the weekend?

Here are some from tonight;

We are planning on several announcements during our spring training
event in Laguna. This is not by accident but by plan. Right now the
world is reacting to NASCAR and we want to let it settle down after
Daytona and California so we can get maximum exposure to our
organization and series.
You will see driver announcements, venue announcements and sponsor
announcements!
As far as where I live, who cares! I am on the road everyday and the
fact should have said I am only home 4 days a month. I am in Indy far
more than 4 days per month.
We are slow on driver announcements and we are working with the teams
to get them finalized. At the end of the day we will be far better
than previous years with a clear path to success.
Steve Johnson

Keep in mind we are entering 2007 with a new car, 6 new venues, two
new race teams with Minardi and PCM, and the best television we have
had and may ever have. This did not happen by accident. Some dont like
to see it but we are making good progress.
We can not live in the past because it will kill us. As we continue to
move forward the pain for some may be too much to handle. We will make
mistakes and take a step back every once and a while. That happens
when you are in a turn around situation.
Our focus on the marketing side will be built around our tv partner
who has far more power to build our brand than we do, as well as build
stars out of our drivers. For those that come to the events, you will
see a better show and an enhanced experience while at the event. We
will provide the best entertainment value in racing today!
Keep the faith we are on the right track.
Steve Johnson

Those were good old days. They had ovals back then - large ovals, small
ovals, medium ovals, street courses, road courses. It was a great series
back then.

No, it was not. They just wanted to be F1 and wanted to be the IRL and
wanted to be NASCAR and failed miserably on all fronts.

They can hire flacks to make all of the grandiose press releases they like
but the fans and the sponsors and the auto makers make the final call.

By the way, those open wheel refugees are nothing but pathetic failures in
NASCAR. You can have them back.
Yeley sucks. Almindinger sucks. Montoya sucks. Hornish sucks. If they do
not have three foot wide tires and 2000 lbs. of downforce to keep the car
glued to the track and a gentleman's agreement to stay at least 100 meters
apart they cannot race.

Perhaps they understand that in real racing you are not supposed to
hit each other. In fact doing so in real racing often results in dire
consequences.

Idiotic even by your low standards. How could they want to be
something that didn't exist (IRL) and something else (NASCRAP) they
were clearly superior to??

I trust NASCAR about as far as I can throw an elephant. They may not
fix races but
they sure do mess with the endings with their phantom yellows and calling or
not calling a caution. Watching Wind Tunnel last night Dave Despain seemed
like it took all his might to not say NASCAR is a joke. Maybe that's why he
has Robin Miller and Ed Hinton on so much - he lets them say NASCAR is joke
so he doesn't have to.

Speaking of 'gentleman's agreement' - what the heck was that second
Daytona race in July after the first Dayton race where Earnhardt died? Jr.
amazingly swept thru the field like magic, from the back to the front, and
miraculously won the race.

Montoya and Hornish can run circles around all the NASCAR drivers, all
things being equal which they clearly are not.

The IRL is modeled after NASCAR. Creating competition yellows at the
end of a race has increased as the sport has gotten more popular, so
has the pressure to be more entertaining, and it`s ruining oval
racing. The PTB want to bunch up the field and have "shootouts". I
don`t get it...if I wanted that, I`d watch the NHRA.
Hell, I might as well, that`s been more exiting than any Nascar or IRL
oval race when I tune in.
I`ll give you that last weekends Nascar race was getting good at the
end..I was enjoying Harvick catching up to Kenseth lap by lap...then
it was ruined.
Let`s never forget Kannan lifting for Franchitti.....what a waste of
TV viewing time....If the fans at the track knew what Tony did at the
time, they would have wanted a refund on the spot.
