FastMachines' Musings on ChumpCar's Pending Demise

ChumpCar's inevitable demise, replete with readers comments:

When All About You Seems Bleak, Have Some More
Kool-Aid! Posted by George Katinger | February 27, 2007

With all of the latest news concerning Champ Cars seemingly at
their lowest, I expected to start reading some more positive items
about our ailing series. How wrong I was!

speedtv, com : MILLER: Silence Not Necessarily Golden
http :// www .speedtv,com /commentary/35621/

When reading the name "Miller" prefacing the speedtv article, I
know what many of you are thinking: Yet another pro Champ
Car-anti IRL/Tony George propaganda piece. The die Hard
IRL fanatics have long held Robin Miller in high disregard which
I find unwarranted. He has routinely castigated Tony George
(justifiably in my mind, but that may be my personal prejudice
showing) and pointed out Champ Cars failings as well.

The latest observations from Robin are nothing short of
devastating for Champ Cars from the beginning:

Six weeks before its season opener in Las Vegas, the series
supposedly in its year of momentum is awash in questions,
rumors and a serious lack of urgency, information, organization
and cars. To his earth shattering closing comment:

But maybe it's become too expensive, even for guys with their
wealth. Or maybe they've simply lost interest. Maybe this would
be a good time to cut a deal and cut their losses. Call Tony George,
sell him your assets and save money, if not open-wheel racing.
Everything in between is just as rosy open wheel fans, so if you
still have dreams of the Champ Car series surviving, don't read
any more. You'll wind up just as depressed as me.

Comments
I too had read the article & the number of one car efforts made me
sick. I know there are always one or two last minute driver/sponsor
deals at the start of a season, but this is bordering on not having
enough critical mass to launch. So much for me hoping the new
Panoz would start a brave new world of AOW. I'm fearful of the
series lasting the year. :-(

Damn Tony George & the 10 years of chaos he has created, a
pox be upon his house.

My family have been in the same box seats since they were $7.50
per seat. They are now $90.00. (53 years) I have missed 2 races
since 1965 and have watched the thrill of the race go down hill. I
would like nothing better than to see the I.R.L. and champ car get
back together to make the competion that much more exciting. The
sooner the better for all of us.

Reality bites. Yes, we've all hoped that some delusional miracle
would occur (re merger). Although people like Miller are your
typical negative rumormongers, he does bring the point that many
of us have already discussed. ChampCar was "rescued" strictly
for monetary gains but these businessmen know when to cut and
run. I don't know the inner workings of ChampCar but with Ford
leaving and from what I've been told, the teams don't have the
extra money's from Ford for funding. Look for ChampCar funds
to go to other racing avenues and their demise is right around the
corner.

Yes, may I have another?

Kool-Aid that is. And please make it Lime, I love Lime.

Champ Car? But wait..they have the Danica antdote right?
Oh wait... the co-owner of the series hasn't signed her yet.

The have a new chassis right? One that will even competition
and be cheaper to run leading to larger car counts, right?

Ah... not so much.

They have shifted to more EU venues for their races right?

Hmmm... ain't going so well with U.S. based sponsors of
U.S. fans.

OK George, I put down my Lime.... better sell the whole
shootin match to Bernie!!!!

Marc, you sarcastic fooker, your acidic filled views are your
most redeeming quality. But this one (the article, not your
comment) really hurt.

I guess it's time to extract my head from my delusion filled
nether regions and catch a dose of reality.

There is absolutely no reason for Tony George to merge or
offer any kind of joint ownership, all he now has to do is
wait for it all to fall into his hands.
