Carl Lopez - Going Faster! Mastering the Art of Race Driving. Any Good?

Anybody read this book before? Is it any good? Hear any good or bad
things
about it? I'm looking for a good book to read on road racing and then head
to the IRL to race against Helio on road and street courses! Seriously tho,
how's the book?

It's basically an expansion of the the Skip Barber School syllabus.
I don't race, but it's a very insightful book on technique with a lot of
good quotes from top US drivers.

I've taken the Skippy school and raced in their series, and have known
Carl for something like 20 years. It's a really good book; he knows his
stuff. Then again, if you're a devotee of the Jim Russell trail-braking-
is-evil school, you might think otherwise.

isn't trailbraking something you do when your car isn't set up
correctly?

Yes, the argument against trailbraking is that it only represents a way to
get an understeering car to turn. Some folks are for it (Skip Barber),
some are not (John Kirkpatrick). As JK said to me once, "if it's good
enough for Jim Clark, it's good enough for me". Personally, I always
thought of it as a natural way to assist entry speed into a corner (but
it's a difficult technique to get to grips with). Then again, maybe all of
the single seaters that I've driven have understeered (including JK's)!

There must be some razzers left out there that can weigh in.
