This fella's got some skills. He had some rather impressive runs in

Conquest Racing will be heading to Las Vegas with a new look and a new
driver after it was announced today that they have signed New-Zealand
born racecar driver Matt Halliday to pilot their # 42 - 42 BELOW
Cosworth/DP01/Bridgestone entry for the start of the 2007 Champ Car
World Series season.
Halliday, who tested with the Indianapolis-based squad last month at
Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca and who drove for the team back in 2001, when
they were competing in the Indy Lights Championship, will take part in
the first three events of the season starting at this weekend's
inaugural Vegas Grand Prix aboard the team's DP01 car that will feature
a special 42 BELOW livery which will be revealed to the media Friday
morning before on-track activities.
"I'm extremely pleased to have Matt come on board for the start of the
season," said Conquest Racing owner Eric Bachelart. "We've worked well
together in the past and I look forward to working with him again. When
we tested him at the final pre-season open-test with the DP01, his
on-track performance definitely demonstrated that he deserves his place
in the Champ Car World Series.
"I'm also delighted to have the chance to work with 42 BELOW, one of
Bacardi's vodka brands, and proud to be able to represent them
worldwide. I can only hope that this partnership becomes a long and
successful one," concluded Bachelart.
The Belgian-born team owner is not the only one thrilled with today's
announcement. The man that will find himself behind the wheel of the 42
BELOW car has been looking forward to this day for a long time.
"I have always had my sights set on Champ Car racing as it is one of the
highest profile Championships using the fastest single-seater racing
cars in the world," expressed Halliday. "I am also very happy to be
doing the Series with Eric Bachelart and Conquest Racing and thank them
for giving me the opportunity to test and eventually sign with the team.
I am also indebted to 42 BELOW for their loyalty and confidence in me to
do the job."
This weekend's race will mark the official debut of Halliday in the
Champ Car World Series but the New-Zealander is no stranger to racing.
This past year, Halliday has been competing in the A1GP Series, the
Porsche GT3 and the Asian Formula Renault V6 Series. In 2004, he ran the
V8 Supercar Series, the Australia and New-Zealand Porsche GT3 and
Carrera Cup and the Porsche Trans Tasman GT3 Challenge where he scored
seven wins, five second and three third place finishes.
The preceding year he raced in Europe and the United Kingdom in the
Formula V6 Euroseries as well as in New-Zealand in the Porsche GT3.
Prior to that, he competed in the Indy Pro Series, Indy Lights, Formula
Holden and Formula Ford after having started his career in karting in 1988.
Halliday will get his first taste of Champ Car street racing as the
season kick-offs Friday morning with the first practice session at 8:50
a.m. Pacific time which will be followed by the first round of
qualifying at 2:00 p.m. Pacific time.
