I still think it's impossible to compare drivers from different eras, and
especially let readers of a magazine do it. It's mostly personal opinion
with a little fact thrown in ;-) - example - I don't particularly like
Michael Schumacher's "sporting" tactics - option 13, Jerez 97, Monaco 06
etc. Am I right to drop him down my own list of top drivers because of
this? One cannot deny he was one of the very best, alleged "cheat" or not.
If you were to compare drivers on a points per races entered ratio, Hamilton
would be at the top *if* my calculations are right. Does this make him
better than Senna? Better than a driver like G Villeneuve or Mansell, who
never really fullfilled their potential (IMO Mansell should have won the
title 2 or 3 times) but drove the balls off shitty cars?
We will *never* know how Senna and Jimmy would compare, or if Schumacher
would have managed the feats of Fangio in a 50s Merc..the speculation and
argument however is part of the fun of being a motor racing fan :-)
