Cheers; haven't watched it yet, and I was avoiding the Indy NG.

She cheated.
She had the best car.
She ignored the yellow.
The series boss has said she is "the logical next champion".
Her father influences the organizers.
It's political correctness.
The guys all let her win.
The car setup was illegal.

It CAN'T be fair, her winning that race.

So you admit you are such a young pup that you
never heard of Maria-Terea de Filippis?

Back in days when Monaco only allowed 16 starters,
she was second fastest of the 5 that "did not qualify".
;-) back atchya

Maria Teresa de Filippis (born in Naples, Italy, November 11, 1926) was the
first of *five* female Formula One racing drivers in the sport's history.

She participated in 5 World Championship Grands Prix, debuting on May 18,
1958. She scored no championship points. She also participated in several
non-Championship Formula One races.

The four other women who attempted to start in F1 were Lella Lombardi,
Divina Galica, Desiré Wilson and Giovanna Amati.

Thank you CoastalEddy,
for very nice and much more informative fill in.
I was not sure anyone would be interested,
so just grabbed one 'exception'.

If you have the time to inform more,
How many WDC GP races did she actually start?

What is the 'best ever' female finish?

Probably Lella Lombardi, since she at least scored half a point for
sixth at a rain shortened 1975 Spanish GP. Topical note - she was
driving a March! I'll bet the rain was absolutely lashing down...

Galica, Wilson and Amati were all DNQs in World Championship F1.

Actually the '75 Spanish GP was stopped after Rolf Stommelen's Hill-
Cosworth crashed and went over the guard rail, killing three officials
and a photographer. He was leading at the time.

Desire did win a non-WDC F1 race though.

La bella Lella scored half a point for a sixth when the race was stopped
prematurely...where was it, Austria 1975?

Four women racing drivers have entered at least one Grand Prix, and another
tried to start but failed to qualify. The woman who competed in the most
Grands Prix is Lella Lombardi, with 17 entries and 12 starts.

Name Seasons Entries Starts Points

Maria Teresa de Filippis 1958 - 1959 5 3 0
Lella Lombardi 1974 - 1976 17 12 0.5
Divina Galica 1976 - 1978 3 0 -
Desiré Wilson 1979 1 0 -
Giovanna Amati 1992 3 0 -

Maria Grazia Lombardi, best known as Lella Lombardi (born in Frugarolo,
Alessandria, March 26, 1941 - died in Milan, March 3, 1992) was a female
racing driver from Italy. She participated in 17 Formula One World
Championship Grands Prix, debuting on July 20, 1974. She scored a total of
0.5 championship points, and is the only female Formula One driver in
history to have a top 6 finish in a World Championship race, at the 1975
Spanish Grand Prix. Half points were awarded for this race due to a
shortened race distance, hence Lombardi received half a point instead of
the usual one point.

The 1976 British Grand Prix is the only Formula One race in which multiple
female drivers were entered.

Pos No Driver Constructor
DNQ 13 Divina Galica Surtees-Ford
DNQ 33 Lella Lombardi Brabham-Ford
