If we use the "standard" 3 kilos per lap, 0.3 seconds for 10 kilos of fuel
values and compare the times from Q1/Q2 and Q3 we'd get the following lap
numbers:
12: Alonso, Raikkonen
14: Hamilton
15: Kovalainen
16: Webber, Kubica, Massa
18: Trulli, Heidfeld
20: Piquet
Now, of course it's not that simple, and 12 sounds awfully low number. Last
year the window seemed to be around laps 19-21. The competition is tought
this time around though, I'd expect most of them run much less than 1/3 of
the distance on the first stint. Raikkonen did have rather poor lap on Q2,
slower than Q1 with the harder tyre. We could adjust his comperable number
to maybe 15, he could have less fuel than Massa this time.
Overall, Alonso does seem to have the same pace as McLarens this time.
However, his strategy is probably going to be worse for the beginning of the
race. I can't see how Hamilton would stuck behind traffic, he should have
clean air and probably pass Alonso on the first stops.
