Who stands to gain when that hideous NAZI staff car gets paraded
around for ten laps every race?

Now, now...

I can imagine the furor giving, say, the Ferrari 430 Scuderia* a free
25minute ad break during every F1 race.

I can pinpoint the sources here.

* A much more logical and effective F1 "safety car" choice than any
riced-up FueherStruzzenWaggon.

I'm not sure they would be able to fit all the computers, monitors and
communication equipment into a F430. Nor do I think that any Ferrari
would make a suitable medical car so that would mean contracting cars
from two manufactures. I'm also not sure how much input Bernd Maylander
has in the decision process, but I assume he would have quite a bit.
Both he and Marcel Fassler have had racing careers in MB's.

Of course, FIA could just hire another couple of drivers but Bernd
especially is now very experienced in the job.

Anyway, a Ferrari 430 would be wasted as a F1 safety car. It could be
put to far greater use just by sitting in my driveway.

I thought Ferrari "didn't need to do advertising"? :-)

They're all rubbish choices. They should use a DTM car, or similar.
Something with decent performance.

Actually their's has been very effective since the mid 1990s.

Would a 430 last that long without breaking?

Right, because Ferrari are unreliable?

Well, the wheel rims would last longer.

Kind of hard to Nazis to stand up in an SL, you doofus.

Methinks you are really the closet Nazi. Say hello to Max at the next
party.

The safety car was a 2009 Mercedes SL, yes.

Truth be told I didn't watch them.

The SL, however, is a convertible, made for easy Fueherstruzzen.

Even more reason to use something real, like a 430 Scuderia, and
another weight on the pan of "sop to McLaren-Mercedes".

Last year they were AMG Black Tunic edition coupes, were they not?

Not in a 2-seater it isn't. You really need more room inside.

I believe so, called the Black Series here.

There's an SL63 Black Series coming -- I wonder if the pace car is
this?
