Brands Hatch moaners win

Brands Hatch has signed a deal to reduce noise and disturbances at its
events.

Brands grew up in the middle of nowhere just after the last war, yet
people have built and bought houses right up to the fencing on the long
circuit. It's not like the morons don't know it's there, yet the first
thing they do once they've moved in, is complain about the noise.

It's one of the best tracks in the UK, much more testing than
Silverstone and now they've lost all chance of ever staging another F1
race. What a pity.

Cretins. It's like those people who buy close to airports then complain
about the noise. Dickheads.

Not always, Sometimes people have lived there for years and obviously the
noise level must have gone up.

As for airports, What about when a new runway is built bringing planes
closer to properties?

I diagree with new runways anyway, They're only built to bring even more
immigrants into countries!

I'm sure the majority of complaints are from the newbies who are living in
what is otherwise a very desirable area (leafy countryside, easy access to
London etc).

To be fair to Brands there can't be many local residents who are *still
alive* who heard the first races there circa 1950, and they're probably
suffering from age-related hearing loss anyway ;^o

We could compile a (very large) book of all the elbowed-out race
tracks around the world. Some, like speedway stadiums in the UK,
operated happily in the midle of towns. amid terraced streets, for 40
years. Wembley would pack in 90,000 on a Saturday night and no
complaints! Quite a few were council-owned stadia. But today's
citizens apparently prefer to have a monster supermarket/car park,
running 7 days, late hours, as a neighbour rather than a once-a-week
race track.

At Seattle International Raceway in the US (The dragstrip-cum-road
track is actually in a remote rural setting among forests), a
developer bought land and put up a tract of 'executive' houses within
400yards, viewing distance, of the start line! Sure enough,
purchasers moved in and then complained about the Top Fuel races on
Sundays!

Actually I think the noise level has gone *down* and there is
certainly now a curfew (no racing engines to be run before 0830 or
after 1830).
There has been motorcycle racing at Brands since the 1930s - when it
was virtually a farmer's field - and car racing since the end of WW2.
The GP circuit extension was built in 1959 and the first GP held in
1964 - long before the housing estate near Clearways was built.

Like others I mourn Brands (which I have been visiting since 1951) but
have long accepted that there will never be another Grand Prix there.

Of course complaints from local residents are nothing new. Brooklands
(built 1907) certainly had to contend with them and I believe a
special silencer was mandatory there as a result.

Yes, agree on "What a pity"
Always the way.
All auto racing tracks have that problem.
One of my MSA's now has to use a track where we
are limited to 95 decibles.

Same idea / trend on gun clubs, railroads, airports, etc.
If people are allowed to move in, they sell, then next
buyer wants 'perfection'.
"Jeeze man! The school district bought this land
15 years ago for use as a 'bus barn'. You bought land
next door 2 years ago and built a house. And now
you are protesting the school district's development!!!"

They're everywhere. Look at your local paper. There's *bound* to be
someone on one of the roads feeding into downtown making the same
complaint about normal traffic.
