Formula One is to have its first official computer game in more than two
years next season following the capture of a new official licencing deal
with British gaming company Codemasters, autosport.com can reveal.

Goog gog.

Codemasters once created a stunning game called TOCA Touring Cars based
on the BTCC, they followed it up with an even better sequel TOCA2
(1998?)...then their whole world went to pot as they chased the console
market with pretty graphics and half arsed story lines.

It will undoubtably be very pretty but whether it will be the game that
once had me running laps for hours at a time looking for that extra
hundredth...now that coog be goog...but it seems unlikely.

Yes TOCA was a superb game. Trouble is Codemasters are going to have
to come up with something that appeals to the mass market in order to
pay Bernie and still make a profit. I fear this will be an
easy-to-learn arcade/console type game rather than the sort of thing
that takes many hours of practice to become good at.
(I'm currently enjoying rFactor and Race07).

yes, toca and toca2 were good games, too bad cm has
gone the way of ea. i doubt the new f1 game will
even be worth installing to try it.

Indeed. I've always thought that the early TOCA made the likes of Gran
Turismo look like the arcade games that they were. TOCA together with
and Colin McRae Rally were two of the most realistic driving games ever
made in my opinion.

Is Crammond still alive ? There would be some hope there.

Nothing seems to have been heard of Geoff Crammond for several years.
"Revs" (for the BBC micro) was the first motor racing sim I ever
played. We thought it brilliant at the time.

So you say. In 1993, Jacques Villeneuve and his Quebecois buddy Claude
Bourbanais were wild to see in Formula Atlantic with Team Forsythe.

In 1994, Forsythe took the team to CART. In 1995 Villy won the championship
and the Indy 500!

Meanwhile, Claude did dick.

And the guy who kicked Claude and JV's ass in Atlantic never made the cut in
CART because Alex Tagliani beat him for the Forsythe ride.

He was two time Atlantic champ David Epringham. Now a coach in Toyota
Atlantic.

"Eppie" was an amazing driver. Smooth, like Prost.

Jacques Villey was the higest paid driver in Formula Atlantic.

In 1993, he made $500,000 a year.

I expect you're heading very rapidly for a lot of Bozo bins unless you
can get your act together.

I didn't think that PS3 version did too hot in the video game market,
or was that just in the US?

TOCA was _very_ good, hell evn *I* bought a wheel & pedals for the pc to
play that.. hmm. wheres that disc gone??

andway never saw TOCA2, got TOCA3 for the Ps2 though.. first one was
better, may have a lot to do with the higher res screen ont he pc..
always managed to beat my other half.. but then he cheats, cutting
corners etc and usually has no tyres after a few laps :-)

if they drop the 'story' rubbish, add the graphics _after_ the game is
playable.. i.e. make a playable *good* game, then make it look pretty it
will be amazing.

sadly I won't be getting it though.. No reasont o get xbox360/ps3 and I
know exactly what the chances of a mac version are..

that said I wish them luck.

btw hope they make it *hard* at least on the higher settings

TOCAīs are not sims, just games. F1 2001 was the last F1-racing sim
(and not bad either) since Sony bought all the rights from FIA.

GTR is nice one, a bit buggy, havenīt tried GTR 2 yet. Of course itīs
not Formula 1 but lot more interesting actually.

I doubt you ever played the TOCA and TOCA 2 games, that are under
discussion, on the PC before Codemasters started making stuff for the
consoles.

Are you talking about a console game?

I did "pass" Toca Race Driver 2. Hurray. It wasnīt easy but itīs
still just a game. Ramming fingers crossed was the way to victory.

F1 2001 afaik is the last FIA-licensed PC-game for formula 1. Sony
made a deal with Bernie and "Max the pervert", and they seem to be not
interested in PC-gamers.

No consoles for me.
