45 minutes is enough

The dreary thought of an F1 race being stopped after 2 hours ---- dear
god. 45 minutes is plenty. Want more commercial exposure? Two 45-
minute races, with a 2-hour break between them to allow for some
interesting supporting events.

When I hear a commentator say "Now they're starting to settle down and
get the feel of the track" I know it's time to go mow the lawn for a
bit. The part I look forward is "With only 10 laps to go X and Y
really have to start charging if they want a podium". Oh good,
they're racing again --- why didn't they do that 70 minutes ago?

Works well enough in WSBK. Even MotoGP with a single 45 minutes race is
quite interesting.

Podium? in F1 the only spot left in doubt by that point is 8th place -
maybe. Unless it's a wet track, or there are a lot of DNF, most races are
over by the first pit stop.

The plan to phase out the fancy aerodynamics over the next couple of years
should hopefully change that. Those appendages on the cars have made
overtaking difficult for some time now.

We see the same dimensions of the car in GP2, but with slicks and without the
appendages, and the overtaking opportunities certainly happen.

That's also why there are so many great passing moves in MotoGP. It's
easier to make moves because there isn't a hurricane behind the driver in the
lead.

In F1, it's almost impossible to race close behind the car in front because
of the turbulence.

I think there is still a hurricane behind the leading vehicle, but due
to the lower aero reliance, the following cars aren't as badly
affected, although chances are some of the aero in F1 is probably
there to dirty the air behind!
