2008, Formula One predictions running total (to race 5)

As I was entering the data from my spreadsheet into a database I was
writing, I noticed that in race three, a number of entries had been
given 10 points for correctly guessing position two or three, when the
points should have been either 8 or 6 points.

So about 5 people have lower points then when I posted the last
results. This is the reason that you may be looking at lower points to
the last time. The results of all the race predictions will soon be
put online for you all to look at and check.

How the points are worked out?

Pole, 5 points ...
1st, 10 points ...
2nd, 8 points ...
3rd, 6 points ...
Near miss (per driver in top 3), 1 point...
DQ's are late entries.

Bird, why did you have to share my faith in Massa? :-)

I was just having a play with the predictions and outcomes, and I think
I've spotted a few (very minor) mistakes:

RdKetchup Round 2 got 6 (presumably Kovalainen in 3rd), but
shouldn't he get 7 because he also got a near miss
(Raikkonen in 1st rather than 2nd)?
Hornplayer9599 Round 2 got 1, but shouldn't be get 2 near misses (both
Kubica and Kovalainen)?
phil@ Can't find an entry for him, but he gets a point in
round 1. Is this a mistake?
Bigbird Round 1 gets 12 points, but I count 11; Hamilton on
pole (5), Rosberg 3rd (6)?
Phil Carmody Round 1 gets 0 points, but doesn't he get 1 for a
near miss for Hamilton?

If I'm right, the difference to the table is minor:

RdKetchup +1 16
Hornplayer9599 +1 40
BigBird -1 56
Phil Carmody +1 15

leaving:

12 RdKetchup 6 7 1 2 0 16
14 Hornplayer9599 6 2 14 16 2 40
18 Bigbird 11 2 2 24 17 56
26 Phil Carmody 1 2 1 11 DQ 15

So, it would trim BigBird's lead from 6 to 5, but otherwise...

Am I right?

Well spotted and corrected.

The score is correct, I must have left the entry off when I posted here,
it is in my spreadsheet that phil@ has one point for this race (Lewis
Hamilton near-miss point). No change in spreadsheet or database.

> Bigbird Round 1 gets 12 points, but I count 11; Hamilton on

Correct. I accidently credited Rosberg as a third place and near-miss for
this entry.

Yes, for some strange reason I left this entry out completely. It's now
in the spreadsheet and point credited to totals. Sorry Phil, you owe Mark
for spotting the mistake.

Minor changes. When I get some more free time I will alter the details on
the online database so it should be visible there.

This was a serious amount of work avoidance to spot this stuff.. Well
done.

Online database (still has at least 2 entries with wrong entry display
issue, so don't say something needs correcting until I've sorted it).

The only driver not from one of the top 3 teams on the podium.
Prediction of the season to date. Should be worth so much more. ;)
