Top 100 F1 Drivers

I posted this in the other place, but neglected to do so here.

The subject is the title of a new book written by the Guardian's long-
time F1 correspondent, Alan Henry. He's also well known as the editor
of Autocourse and has authored over fifty racing books.

" http :// www .amazon.co.uk/Top-100-Formula-Drivers-Time/dp/1840468947/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1?
ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1204212506&sr=8-1"

There was a review in the Daily Telegraph recently, and their website gave the
full list. I've added the number of WDCs and GP wins for each driver plus a few
other relevant facts.

The review noted that Henry is including some drivers that actually predate F1
- which began in 1947.

2. Jim Clark WC(2) 25 killed

In this context 'Pre F1' means before 1950 when the World Championship began.

Henry include all of the WDCs, but has ignored several of the 88 race winners,
namely:

Fisichella, Frentzen & Herbert (3 wins)
Jabouille & Trintignant (2)
Baghetti, Bonnier, Brambilla, Fagioli, Gethin, Nannini, Nilsson, Panis,
Scarfiotti & Taruffi (1)

Fair enough - F1 derived from Grand Prix motor racing, and for a chunk
of F1 onwards it wasn't even "real" F1 either...

!!! Only two places apart? How Ralf could ever be considered a top 100
of all time, I'll never know.

Where do I begin...

Jeez...

Nice guy, but...

Let me skip quite a chunk...

What the...?

Beggars belief. Seems I have more respect for Caracciola than most.

> 30. Lewis Hamilton 4 current driver

Now they are really taking the mickey...

Hmph.

Ahead of Tazio?

None I'd kick out of a top 10.

Yeah, well... He also included some that really shouldn't have been
there.

In article <62vjl3F25h50fU1@mid.individual,net >,
Brian_W_LawrenceREMTHIS@msn,com says...

OK, this invalidates the whole thing (that was quite crappy anyway...).

There was one in [the online Journal of] /Autosport/ last week. While
conceding that any such list is arbitrary the reviewer still found much
to criticize about reasons given, [lack of] uniformity of approach, etc.

As to the list itself, well, clearly the word "top" means something
different to Henry than one might have expected.
