Be careful... apart from the ad-breaks F1 on ITV was much better than the
previous BBC coverage. Hopefully the BBC will have learned some lessons (ditch
The Cock, for a start).

All I care about is coverage lights-to-flag; I don't watch any of the extra
stuff, and the pictures are provided by the world feed anyway, so all I've
really noticed is the imposition of the ads.

I assume Bernie won't let the BBC show F1 just when they feel like it (and
cut away to other more urgent sporting events, like bowling), which seems to
be the case back before Nigel was winning WDCs.

Could the BBC really get worse commentators than The Cock?

And the commentary comes from Radio 5 so it does not matter who the TV
use - unless for some reason I am watching the delayed feed.

Of course I want full coverage of qualifying - and if I can get pictures
of any other session it is a bonus - but with limited running due to
engine regs and given there is not a Sunday morning warm-up for cars to
blow up in it is less of an issue.

Wow, even Speed gives me that.

Friday afternoon practice

Yeah, it was nice having the Friday drivers hauling ass around the
track. How many laps did Alonso do last year at Indy on Friday? 2 in
the morning, 6 in the afternoon?

I'd rather, as someone here suggested last year, have a totally open
Friday. Free engines, free tires, three drivers per team. And reduce
testing elsewhere and when.

I wouldn't bet on that. I'm particularly worried about BBC Bloody
Scotland, up here. They'll cut coverage for Women's Highland League
football or something at the drop of a hat.

Isn't that the nude league? I'll watch it. :-)

I know what you mean. When the Canadian was delayed several years
back due to some major accidents at the starts, Fox cut away to
baseball games with a few laps to go. And never did report the
finish.

That's less of a problem if you have BBC via satellite, because at
least you can change to a different region's BBC very easily.

Martin Brundle + Ben Edwards, on the BBC, with The Chain.

Accept no substitute.

I'm not sure - the coda to "The Chain" was a new piece of music when it was
first used. It's sad that we won't have heard it for 12 years, but would it
be right to bring it back? (Is nostalgia what it used to be?)

Well, when I was at the British GP, way back in 1997, they played the
relevant bit of the Chain in the beer tent on our campsite, and it was
very popular. The problem with ITV's music, IMO, isn't just that it's
not the Chain, it's also completely rubbish. If the BBC use something
that raises the hair on the back of ones neck but isn't the Chain, I
wouldn't mind (although, I can't watch it, only RTL, so... I don't care
anyway!)

Well, you can check it out on the BBC's F1 page
( http :// news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/motorsport/formula one/default.stm) -
they've got an audio clip of The Chain up!

I'd be happy with that. I think my ideal team would be Martin
Brundle/Perry McCarthy/Amanda Stretton, though.
