Kovaleinens Spanish accidentI've just watched the qualifying from Turkey, and in the build-up they
showed the accident suffered by Kovaleinen in Spain. The McLaren team blamed
the wheel rim breaking up for the accident, but was there a steering failure
as well? The overhead camera shot shows the car going into the corner with
the steering wheel turned to the right, the rim breaks, and at this point
the steering rack seems to straighten up (both wheels pointing straight
ahead) but the steering wheel is still turned to the right. The car follows
a straight line to the barrier, but Kovaleinen appears to straighten the
steering wheel up and then apply full right lock but the wheels don't change
direction. Did something break in the steering, before or after the wheel
rim broke up?
