Finally, a suitable vehicle for the early-2004 "walrus tusk" front
wing. . . .

Having been a Robot Wars competitor a little while ago, my first
thought was that it was actually a flipper. I was waiting for JPM to
come up behind MS and flip him off the track.

Nah, JPM was more of the hammer type. Or maybe the vertical saw. My
horizontal saw worked well until someone came up with a bot that had a
better reach than I did.

What happened to that show? We *used* to get it over here - big fan of
the host BTW from Red Dwarf, and then it just disappeared. Did it get too
expensive/ludicrious with damage? How many seasons did it run?
Junkyard Wars too. Hmm, similarity there eh?

Looks like it got bought up by Sky One. Sundays 2pm. Now called "Robot
Wars Extreme II". Still hosted by Craig Charles.

They stopped carrying it either the year or the year after he got the
"motorcycle bondage" outfit. There was a pitiful US takeoff that was
around for a few years as well.

The Discovery Channel had its own versionin the States, and also aired
the British version (at 0200 Sunday morning, obviously in an attempt
to get the 13 to 17 year old male computer geek). But, like all fads,
it petered out. My final bot is rather nasty looking, both as a
killer and as a victim of someone better than she.

Robot Wars did six series on the BBC. Then BBC2 got a new controller
and, desparate to make an impact, the first thing she did was ditch
BBC2's most popular programme. Er, that would be Robot Wars. The
production group, Mentorn, sold series 7 to five (that's channel 5)
and then dropped the franchise. It's been dead since then. The Extreme
events were just Robot Wars but not in a set series format, and
Extreme II is from 2003.

Ah. I guess I saw the whole run then. Thanks.
