Three different WDC leaders in 3 races

Post Istanbul Kimi Räikkönen 35 pts
Post Monte Carlo Lewis Hamilton 38 pts
Post Montreal Robert Kubica 42 pts

When was the last time?

1985

Brazil Alain Prost 9 pts
Portugal Michele Alboreto 12
San Marino Elio de Angelis 16

If we allow for shared lead with drivers equal on points it did also
happen in

2007 Räikkönen (10); Alonso (18); Alonso/Räikkönen/Hamilton (22)
1989 Mansell (9); Prost (12); Senna/Prost (18)
1986 Senna (15); Senna/Piquet (15); Prost (22)

2008 is the first season in five years that there have been as many as three
(or more) WDC leaders. Some of the most recent occasions were:

2003 Coulthard, Räikkönen & Schumacher (M)
1999 Irvine, Schumacher (M) & Häkkinen
1997 Coulthard, Villeneuve & Schumacher (M)
1989 Mansell, Prost & Senna
1987 Prost, Mansell, Senna & Piquet 4 in season
1986 Piquet, Senna, Prost & Mansell 4 in season
1985 Prost, Alboreto & de Angelis
1983 Piquet, Lauda & Prost
1982 Prost, Watson, Pironi & Rosberg 4 in season
1981 Jones, Reutemann & Piquet
1980 Jones, Arnoux & Piquet

Never more than four leaders in one season.

We could see four leaders in four races if Massa wins in France and
Kubica to scores less than 6 points.

I assume that has never occurred before.

Depends how you deal with 'shared lead'. In 1979

1979 J Laffite 9 18 18 24
G Villeneuve 20 20
P Depailler 20
J Scheckter 24 30 30 32 35 38 44 51 51 51

Villeneuve and Depailler both had 20 points after five GPs, but GV had the
better results and would/should be classified as the leader. However, if
you allow that they shared the lead there were four drivers leading in 4
races.
