F1 drivers on Top Gear

I've been catching up with some old Top Gear episodes on the BBC's web
site, and this weekend caught the one where The Stig did a lap in the
"reasonably priced car". His time put him top of the F1 drivers' board,
above the previous leader Nigel Mansell. This got me wondering... has
anybody heard who The Stig is, since Perry McCarthy stepped down? I find
it difficult to believe the secret's really been kept!

You may recognize the eyes here:

The general opinion is that it's Ben Collins... seems a bit too obvious.

I don't, but thanks for that, led me to a few other bits like his
Wikipedia entry. The fact that he was named as "close consultant" for
Top Gear following Hamster's big crash is significant.

I tend to think the obvious is more believable than conspiracy theories.
:o) works for me, ta!

Most places I've read about it suggest that since Perry's replacement the
role has been shared by several professional drivers.

If you're the type to rely on Wikipedia as the font of all knowledge, then
try http :// en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Stig#Identity. Individual suggestions
on there include Julian Bailey, Tim Schrick, and even Damon Hill and Mark
Webber...
