maserati maybe joining in indycar

Here in italy has been published in newspaper that Ferrari is interested to
join indycar with Maserati from 2011. At the last meet for the engine was
present a ferrari man.

Good eh, especially here in italy where, apart the satallite sky channel
that show the races, the national media talks of indycar just when a woman
wins or a driver get killed.

Re: maserati maybe joining in indycar

That would be neat.

Maserati could use an introduction in the US. Aside from having a
fast-sounding name (say "Maserati car" and anyone would automatically
imagine a Ferrari or Lamborghini), most Americans only know about it
from a Joe Walsh song.

Johnny 'Sack' Sacramoni drove a Maserati Coupe Cambiocorsa on the
Sopranos TV series which had millions of viewers in the USA. And,
anybody who spends significant time in or around California or Nevada
and pays a modicum of attention is acquainted with Maserati. They're
on the roads and in the showrooms in the major cities there. I know
I've seen many Maseratis in NYC/Tri-State area as well. A fairly
significant dealer network exists in Canada and the USA. Most likely
there is a dealership in somewhat close proximity to whatever
backwater burg (or intellectual paucity) from where you opine in your
hopeless ignorance.

Joe Walsh's song (Life's Been Good to Me) is thirty years old now. Do
you think those listening to Panic at the Disco or Gnarls Barkley have
any idea who Joe Walsh is, let alone the reference to his Maserti
doing 185?

Re: maserati maybe joining in indycar

By comparison to its closest market competitor, the W12-powered
Bentleys, the Maserati GranTurismo and Quattroporte are invisible,
unknown, and unadvertised, hidden in the Ferrari store.

Like Johnny Sack in 2004, the average age of luxury sports car buyers
is about 50. That buyer was a high school senior when Joe Walsh sang
his song in 1977.

Re: maserati maybe joining in indycar

infact I read in that news they want to bacame bigger in northamerican
market.

If maserati is really coming mabye there's a chance to see an italian
driver. You know I was really disapponted with the way ganassi maneged the
situation with Pantano. He done just 3 races, some mistakes, but he showed
that pace was really there, give the guy more time.If they let race Marty
roth and Milka duno....

Make that "re-introduction". It's not like they are totally _unknown_...

A few years back they made #1 on Autoweek's "best car to lose in a divorce":
the Maserati BiTurbo.

Something like "your wife's lawyer will think it is a huge win, and
she will end up with huge depreciation and repair costs"

PS just kidding...my calendar has a cool pic of a Milwaukee champ car
race (1947...dirt track) with the 1941 indy 500 car leading, and slightly
behind in a full power slide is a offy-powered Maserati

Hard to believe that the Biturbo, like the Alliance and Fuego, are so
long ago that today's 40 somethings have forgotten them.

Sterling, we hardly knew ye. But we threw a party when you left.

My neighbor had a BiTurbo and although it was a fast great looking
car, it started rusting on the boat and broke down coming down the
gangplank ;-)

Honestly, it hardly ever ran and he was miserable at having spent so
much for the privilege. But when it ran...WOW!

I know pretty well the biturbo. Here we see a lot of annouces of sale of
that car, for 2 cents naturally. The period when that car comed out on the
market, maserati was making pieces of junk. From some time it's owned by
ferrari, and it's all a new story!

Also in that period, in my head a bit confused, came on the italian market e
Fiat with Ferrari engine, could you bellieve it?! I think it was when fiat
buyed ferrari....

it was the FIAT 130 Coupè Pininfarina.

You can find it at modest prices now, but alsto this is a piece of junk!

bye bye

IIRC Russia repayed a debit to Italy with contaminated steel that turned
to dust. Fiat did produce a coupe with the Dino V6 Ferrari engine.
Lots of new Masers here in Newport Beach.

I live near the local Ferrari/Maseratti dealer and I get to see all
the great cars I can not afford. There are a lot of these cruising the
streets near me. I am eagerly awaiting the Maserati Grand Turismo
because it has to be one of the best looking cars in many years.
Muscular styling with a 400 hp lump.

I remember it, but not too well. The styling has not aged too well. I
am primarily a Quattroporte fan, but that is a great car.
