almost a whole month, everyone will forget about the last race because

Not a fan of Kansas, period. I still think there are too many of these
banked 1.5 mile ovals. Trimming those down to a select few and replacing
them with either 1 mile rings or Michigan/Fontana would improve the oval
portion of the season drastically IMO.

My guess is that they are trying to get Surfers to move into this slot.
Maybe they're after Mexico City, as well.

So there are 10 ovals and 8 road/street circuits. The cookie cutters
of Kansas, Iowa, Chicago and Kentucky could be replaced with Michigan/
Fontana and some other more desirable ovals. Or they could cut down
the amount of ovals and only have 6 per year with Montreal, Mexico,
Road America and Laguna taking their place. I didn't mention Richmond
because usually that is a very exciting race. This year it was a crash
fest, but usually it is a treat.

How about this:
Surfer's Paradise
Phoenix
Long Beach
Indianapolis
Milwaukee
Detroit
Portland
Cleveland
Toronto
Michigan
New Hampshire
Elkhart Lake
Vancouver
Mid Ohio
Nazareth
Laguna Seca

This has the perfect mix of ovals, road courses and street circuits.
Look familiar?? CART 1993. Enough said!

Hmmm. I wouldn't remove all the cookie-cutters, but just reduce them to
something tasteful. One of my best power-naps last year was during
Chicagoland, and Homestead usually causes drowsiness as well. I'd
replace one of them with Michigan and another with Loudon. I'd replace
Infineon's castrated Mickey-Mouse layout with Laguna. I'd add Mexico and
Road America, but I don't think I'd go with Montreal. I just don't think
it would be a good fit. Unless, of course, it was a double weekend with
ALMS and the Fairy Godmother magically gave the island enough paddock space.

But, but that CART stuff was a failure. Haven't you been paying
attention to the resident arbiters of unbiased objectivity?

I actually like Homestead because they can show it early in the year
and although it is a snooze, there is nothing else on the racing
scene then.

I still love Sears Point because I lived out there for several years
and that and Laguna were my home tracks. The Point may be emasculated,
but they could always just run what is left of the proper course.

For Montreal I was just throwing out a possibility

I guess I just haven't been paying attention ;-)

How about none?

OK they are never going to lose Indy so the cars are always going to be
these huge tanks.

Re: schedule, They certainly need to move from Infineon to Laguna Seca.

Re: 2009 Schedule

Along I-5 in California, they were or are in the process of building a new
oval track for the one they lost called Mesa Marin in Bakersfield (too much
noise complained new nearby home owners).

The building has stopped west of Bakersfield on the facility since they ran
short on the loan and need another $35 million to finish it to please
NASCAR. Bleacher seats are in as well as the track. I don't know what else
they need for $35 million unless maybe a parking lot and fancy box seating
or garages.

Maybe a Rick Mear's memorial.

Start of the season with two street courses. Should make the ChampCar
diehards happy. IndyCar schedule seems to be getting back to that awesome
schedule ChampCar had in the late 1990's. Need a few more road and ovals
tho. I would like to see the series get up to 24 events or so.

It is a surprise to see two street courses open the season and not an
oval. Rather shocking indeed. I'm guessing this means - open wheel fans
want more road/street racing and the same or less oval racing. Anyway, for
the oval loving IRL, this is a shock.

When I look at old ChampCar/Cart schedules from the late 1990's, I always
say - Wow! A bunch of ovals and different sized ovals at that. Plus,
street and road. I would love to see a schedule with some back to back to
back races in the Summer with three road courses in a row, two or three
ovals in a row, and couple of street courses in a row.
