New Problem for IRL: Not Enough Races

Interesting snub on Vegas, I sure hope now with unification they don't
think they need the people that helped along the way any longer

Interesting comments, indeed. I wouldn't be too exited about Vegas, but
I was really hoping to see New Hampshire on the schedule. I would have
actually made the drive and spent money on tickets for that race.

Vegas isn't as suitable as it used to be since they raised the banking. New
Hampshire would indeed be a good venue. I wouldn't mind seeing the
pointy-cars return to Pocono, but it would need a pave job since it was
dropped from the CART schedule for being too rough, among other reasons.

That sucks. When the total races came down because of the merger, it
should have been CART venues - not the ones that supported IRL - that
got the short end. Not a vicious "we win, you lose, suffer" position.
Just a natural outcome of the merged series being IRL and not CCWS.

Angstadt's statement that they're looking for 50/50 oval/non-oval
sucks, too. Next year's 10/8 is bad enough. They're going in the
wrong direction.

'CART venues should get the short end?' The only 2007 CART/Champ Car
events on the 09 calendar are the two Canadian races, plus the LBGP.
One of those Canadian races is owned by a pre-2008 IRL team owner, who
is reviving it presumably instead of a race like Loudon.

I'm not gonna let you count the LBGP as a CART race, because the IRL
has wanted that race since they installed right-side buckeyes.

That IRL covets LBGP is part of the lost vision. It was CART's crown
jewel. Yeah, it ran under an IRL sanction this year, but it was with
CART equipment and teams. And when it runs with IRL equipment next
year, all the CART fans are going to bitch and gripe about how it's
been ruined. Nobody's going to say "IRL's come back home."

Belle Isle was a CART track. St. Petersburg started as a CART race.
Yes, just one, but it was during CART/OWRS/CCWS's final years, even
after most of the top CART teams had moved over.

So five of the eight road/street courses are CART territory.

I'd like to see Phoenix and Loudon back on the schedule. Those two
ovals went with IRL right from the start.

I really wish they had not torn down Trenton and Nazareth.

>>>Belle Isle was a CART track. St. Petersburg started as a CART race.

"Honest, y'honor. I found the pistol and the bag of money on the
street! No, wait, three guys ran past and dropped it. Yeah! That's
it! I was only taking it to the police station to turn it in!"

The amusing part is that if the IRL had a free hand in 2009, this is
exactly the same roster they'd want if CCWS were operating. The IRL
and its teams would want to race the LBGP, the teams would want
Toronto, and I presume that Edmonton is paying a juicy fee to the IRL
that overwhelms the possible entertainment advantages of racing at
Nashville, Loudon, etc.

This IS the Vision, mergification or not.

If CCWS were operating, and the concept was that killing the enemy is
the same as victory, it would be great. Much like the euphoria when
IRL snatched Motegi away from CART.

But the war is over. Body counts don't matter any more. Very
disappointing that they're abandoning the vision.

I don't much care about who had what and who supported whom, but those
are two great tracks. Phoenix is one of the most exciting tracks
around and Loudon is just plain fun to watch.

Agreed!! I remember a few races from many years ago when it was
impossible to sit down and I was at home ;-)

Love Phoenix - if it wasn't for those ISC arseholes...

I miss Nazareth--it was nice to have OW races so close to home....

I think Tony is tired of having to foot the bill at some of the tracks
that don't make any money and this is hopefully a way to make the
series profitable, but I truly wish they would drop some of those
aweful 1.5 dovals and fit in a few better suited ovals.

Say, whatever happened to Speedway Engines?
