Interesting mix. They tend to make these packages as diverse (i.e.,
scattered) as possible, so people will have to subscribe to more than
they really want.
I get Versus (nee OLN) in a "Sports and Info" tier that we subscribe
to because my wife insisted we get Bloomberg TV. The tier includes
DIY channel, Golf, Military, Discovery Kids, and two of the minor
ESPN's.
I don't think my wife feels she got a deal; all she wanted was
Bloomberg. But it worked out well for me, especially those times when
races were bumped onto ESPN Classic. And when there are no races on,
I can watch people build stuff on DIY and destroy stuff on Military.
My recollection is that when our cable provider first carried Speed,
they split the channel with OLN. At that time OLN was more about
stuff like hiking and recreational cycling. I had a bitter e-mail
exchange with the cable company about how Speed needed its own full
channel. Ironic that the channel that blocked half of my Speed
reception is now my savior.
As long as they don't hire Todd Harris...
