Did you watch the race, by chance?
Ambrose was on track for a top-five finish before "Special Ed" Sadler
spun him, causing massive transmission damage to Ambrose's car.
Further, he's been on the schedule since the beginning of the year to
run races in the 21 car. He's not a ringer at all, although his
championship credentials prior to NASCAR did come from the Australian
V-8 Supercars, a stock-body road course series. You can no more call
him a ringer in this case than you can Terry Labonte.
Likewise, Fellows was working on a top-ten when Harvick decided that
brakes are optional and ended up taking McMurray, Stewart, and Fellows
all out of contention.
Papis - Never in contention to win, but still got collected when Kurt
Busch smacked into Robby Gordon.
Pruett - Ran decently enough until Stewart got into the back of him.
So these 'bozos', with the exception of Said, Simo, and maybe Papis,
were actually running pretty well. Certainly much better than their
results sheets ended up showing. The only thing that kept them from
pulling off some of the best finishes in recent ringer history were
the impatience or incompetence of the Cup regulars.
