Silly Season Not Bad So Far

Silly Season Not Bad So Far
Despite the feeling that 2008 has been a very busy Silly Season,
only 1 Full-Time Driver has been replaced-JMayfield.
However there have been 4 cars that ceased operations:
#4-Morgan/McClure, #27-Bill Davis, #49-BAM, & #40-Ganassi.
The Racin' Media sure knows how to make perceptions
seem like reality.

here's a (not so) quick run down of what i believe will happen next
year (i tried making a new thread earlier, but it didnt work for some
reason, so sorry if that some how appears somewhere else:

1. it's confirmed smoke will announce at Indy he's at least going to
be an owner of Haas (he may not be racing there next year, but will be
part owner with Office Depot and Old Spice as Sponsors. If stewart
doesn't go to Haas in '09, Newman will be in one car with JD as
sponsor, and Truex in the other with Bass Pro Shops, then in 2010 they
will expand to 3 cars with Stewart having Office Depot and Old Spice
(he has the PCP so this makes sense)
2. I think sorenson will be the odd man out next year, with no ride he
will go to the NNS similar to what stremme did this year
3. speaking of stremme, he'll be in the 12, he's already a test driver
for Penske he knows the cars, it just makes sense
4. Riggs to the 45 makes sense, he could drive the State water heaters
in the 45, and kyle's sponsors would switch over to the 43, im sure
they would be more than happy with labonte, he's a great driver. I
also believe Kyle will retire after this season, he's already extended
the amount of time Bobby Labonte will be driving the 45, i think he
sees his time is over.
5. As i said earlier, bass pro shops will go to Stewart/Haas next year
if Truex moves, if he stays at DEI BPS will stay there. they already
sponsor stewart's dirt cars and they seem to like truex
6. Newman to Stewart/Haas with jack daniels sponsorship and UPS will
go to RCR and bowyer...end of story only question in the number, the
07 is Jd's number, they may want to bring that with them 66 to RCR -->
07 to S/H
7. Smith is a good driver, but he isn't getting the full support the
other 3 cars are getting at DEI, he only has partial sponsorship,
despite what it seems Principal financial is NOT the primary sponsor
of the car they are only paying for partial sponsorship, they just
have the rear quarter panels, the hood is the DEI logo, but Smith and
the 01 team still refers to the car as the "principal financial
chevy", which i believe is a mistake, they are not paying for full
sponsorship, yet are getting all the benefits. anyways, im not sure
what will happen to him, the new DEI owners may want to just focus on
having 3 good cars rather than 2 good and 2 mediocore
8. The 33 driver next year looks like it could be Mears, he may have a
tough time though qualifying it, because it will have 0 owner points,
another option here is Scott wimmer and mears could go to the 1 with
principal/coors light as a sponsor
9. i heard ambrose's nationwide team was thinking of going to Cup next
year bringing Kingsford with them, they aren't commited to ford though
and they are open to any brand
10. wood brother's may be in trouble next year...
11. menard will stay at DEI, but his dad will sponsor him where ever
he goes
12. the "3rd yates team" will be Roush's 5th team, they may make that
switch though a year early just to get stuff settled looks like the 26
would switch over.
13. Scott Speed may not be coming to Cup next year but 2 options are
the BDR 23, or a Red Bull 3rd car with Army sponsorship also BDR and
RBR may merge
14. Kvapil ain't goin nowhere, he's doing very well in unsponsored
junk
15. Allmendinger is staying put, and he seems to be finally get the
hand of the COT
16. also the the 00 may shut down if they can't find sponsors
17. Jayski is reporting right now that DEI has Hard Rock Cafe as a
sponsor for the 8 if Army leaves, if they don't Hard Rock goes to the
01

and finally...

dale jr will be driving a toyota next year

haha jk guys
