Thing that impressed me at DegaThe thing that really impressed me at Dega was how fast two cars
in a tight draft were, compared to a line of cars in a normally
spaced draft.
It didn't really seem to make any difference who the cars were,
either - Kvapil with Gilliland one inch behind were just as able
to rocket past the whole line as Earnhardt with Hamlin.
I noticed on Fox's graphic that at one point Earnhardt & whoever
he was running with at the time (probably Hamlin) hit 206 at the
end of the backstraight. That will probably alarm NASCAR; expect
a smaller plate for the fall race.
I did notice that it seemed like some drivers simply were not
able to run right up behind another car. They, and the guy
they were following, were sitting ducks to the guys who could
pair up and run close.
I also noticed that no-one seemed to be able to run a close
draft for a whole lap. I dunno if that's because it's simply
not possible to stay that close in the tri-oval, or the strain
of running that close is just too much to do it for more than
30 or 40 seconds at a time.
