RPG - Two R's - McCoy

Richmond:

The Win: OK, I messed it up last week, so this week I'll try to
get it right: Denny Hamlin wins from the pole (double checked the
starting lineup this time).

1 - top Chevy: surprisingly, the HMS cars looked kinda weak in
quals. I'll go with Kevin Harvick (and 4 tires on the last stop)
since he's always fast here.

2 - top Ford: they all look pretty slow. I'll go with Carl
Edwards for top Ford, since Kenseth hasn't historically been as
good at coming to the front late at this track as elsewhere.

3 - top Dodge: bunch of them up front this week. I'll go out
on a limb and say JPM has the hang of short tracks now, and stays
up at the sharp end of the field.

4 - best rookie: Patrick Carpentier blew them away with a very
fast qualifying run, he backs that up with a strong race finish
to be best rookie.

5 - story: no change in the T35 in points, but the 01, 77, 41,
and 55 all get closer to 36th (currently 61 points, 65, 80, and
110 points respectively)

Rockingham:

The Win - Justin Allgaier. There's 3 or 4 young guns that are
always up front in the ARCA shows - Allgaier, Hawkings, Carter,
and you can't count out Frank Kimmel. It's pretty much throw
a dart to pick one.

1 - the best of the NASCAR regulars will be Johnny Benson.

2 - Austin Dillon (who'll probably be the next man to use the
number 3 in Cup) will get a T10.

3 - this year's female phenom, Alli Owens, finishes worse than
15th.

4 - James Hylton completes less than 1/4 of the race and retires
for the 18th time.

5 - in the battle of the development drivers, Logano (Gibbs)
beats Speed (Red Bull) beats Stenhouse (Roush) beats McCumbee
(PEI). There's probably a couple more development drivers in
there, but those are the ones I recognize.

I claim 481 MVM points. It's been a long time since we've seen
someone so dominant in a Cup race.

Right car owner, wrong team. Harvick in 8th and Burton in 11th
made it a good night for RCR.

A point! Edwards, Biffle, and Kvapil (who is quietly putting
together a right respectable season) were the only Fords on the
lead lap.

JPM departed in an early incident, Newman ended up best of the
Dodges (and looked pretty strong doing it, which was a bit of a
surprise).

Did not back it up with any strength in the race, and then got
hisself in a big wreck. Regan Smith was top rookie.

No change, but everyone except Mikey managed to space themselves
out a bit from 36th.

Nope - I missed a bit of the middle of the race, and didn't see
why he lost ~20 laps, but he finished well back.

I thought Benson was going to run the race, but apparently he
was just setting up the car for Shrader. So he wasn't best of
the NASCAR guys.

A point! 7th, a respectable run for a guy with not too much
experience yet.

I claim some more MVM points. She finished 15th.

Hylton finished something like 50 laps down, but was running
all day (you think the leaders got tired of passing him?). No
word on any retirement.

Logano (talk about a dominating run), Stenhouse, McCumbee, and,
after a rookie mistake that got him some sharp words from his
spotter, Speed.

Cup race - +1
season - +10

You may take as many Moral Victory Points as you wish,
but actually enumerating them runs somewhat contrary to
the fact that their value is beyond all telling.

It's better, on the whole, to stick with non-numeric
indicators lest we give anyone the impression that
MVPs could be traded on the open market. Like the
ruble of old, Moral Victory Points are a whole different
kettle of fish.

Ya certainly deserve 381 of 'em...one fer every lap Denny led (a new
record)!

Loved watching the race from the Rock...Joey's the real deal and I was
delighted to see that sand hills asphalt forcing all the tire strategy
toward the end. Kenny hung in, too.

Yeah, typo. I moved my computer and now I'm somehow offset
to the right on my keyboard, and I keep typing one letter
off. I'm going to wear out the backspace key at this rate.

Yeah, I liked it too - it was nice to see a race start at the
right time, and start without 2 hours of baloney first - sing
the anthem, start the engines, and get out on the track.

And I was pleased to see it was a race, not a follow the leader,
altho no-one had anything for Logano. But some of the other
guys were racing in the classic Rockingham style, one guy low,
one high, and one in the middle groove.

I think that next year's race will be much better. This is a
longer race than most of the ARCA guys have ever run, and it's
much more tire strategy dependant. I think most everyone likely
learned a lot (except maybe Logano's team, who seemed to already
know it), and they'll have a better plan for the next one.
