Those yellow walls

Those yellow walls

At first, I wasn't sure if I liked them, or was just a little intrigued
since they were different. After seeing the race, I've decided I really like
them. Seems to make the track stand out a little more.

I don't. I like concrete walls to be white (preferably with a "1",
"2", "3", and "4" in the appropriate places).

That, of course, being the intention. Apparently the drivers cannot
clearly see where the white wall meets the track to judge their
line off the corner.

Seems to me that must be a side effect of the Musco lighting with
the mirrors and low-angle lights. The guys running the hundreds
of Saturday night short tracks don't seem to have problems seeing
where the track stops and the wall starts, and the different
lighting is the only factor I can think of to explain it.

If I understood (heard) the report correctly, the only intention was to tie
it all in to Sprint, then the walls would go back to white.

I'd say the speed has something to do with it too....
I ran this real nostalgic hick dirt track in Vermont once, that was lighted
with the old fashioned type street lights (big incandescent bulbs in those
porcelain shades, if people can remember those)
It wasn't great, but it was only a quarter miler,
and you could get through it... but at the faster paved tracks
we ran, it never would have flown.

I haven't been to any races in years.
I worked on a asphalt modified during the 1970's and early 80's.
We would go to Oswego for special races.
I went a few times just to watch the super modifieds run.
Talk about fast !!!!!
If you sat under the roof, your eyes would burn from the exhaust because the
supers burned alcohol.
