Covered tracks anyone?

Covered tracks anyone?

So...I wonder how long it will take the powers that be to recognize
that it is time to consider covering some tracks. Starting with the
short ones.

Cheap and shortsighted is as cheap and shortsighted does.

You're talking VAST roofs, even for the smallest tracks.

And getting bad air out and fresh air in will be a huge
problem.

I don't think it makes sense in terms of cost and benefits.

Yeah, they would have a significant carbon monoxide issue that football
stadia don't have, wouldn't they? Doming would probably also magnify the
sound inside the track as well, on a wild guess.

The Indianapolis speedrome is the only permanent covered track
I know of. It's 1/10 mile, they run pavement midgets with a
field of maybe 20 cars. Occasionally dirt tracks of perhaps
1/4 mile have been built in stadia for special shows (ala
motorcycling's stadium supercross).

The Chili bowl midget race is held in a roofed building that's
open on the sides & ends, if I'm not mistaken.

I don't think it would really be practical to roof a track
bigger than a 1/4 or 1/3 mile, even if you left the sides open
to solve the ventilation problem. NASCAR has no interest in
running on such a short track.

I don't know what track you're thinking of, but the Speedrome is not
covered, and it's 1/5 mile

OK, obviously I'm getting two places confused. I wonder where the
heck I'm thinking of - 1/10 mile, indoor track, somewhere in the
middle part of the country...

It'll come to me eventually.

Whine whine whine. Can't can't can't. same BS I heard for years about
soft walls.

Put the canvass cover up high and the wind will carry away all CO. I
predict by 2020 most tracks will be covered.

LOL. We're talking about something a tad bigger than a circus
tent here. It would take no small amount of structure to hold
up the weight of the canvas alone (not to mention the possibility
of it getting wet if it rains - water is heavy).

I'll play the opposite to your prediction, and assert that by 2020
there will be no covered tracks hosting NASCAR Cup races.

John

LOL! Just think of all the money lost. Will be interesting to see how
it plays out.

(lots of folks in the know thought I was FOS when I predicted that
soft walls were coming 10 years ago)

I see an opportunity for the "official muffler" of NASCAR.
