Mr Judd out of a ride

It seems like a matter of time before Target wants out of the Cup
Series altogether considering the efforts lately.
Chip Ganassi is ready to clean house soon I believe.

Good call. Looks like Mr. Franchitti is out of a ride. From Jayski's
this morning:

Ganassi's #40 team closes down: hearing that the #40 Chip Ganassi
Racing team of Dario Franchitti will skip the Coke Zero 400 at Daytona
International Speedway and has closed the team, supposedly laying off
around 70 employees.(7-1-2008)
UPDATE: Chip Ganassi Racing with Felix Sabates (CGRFS) announced today
that due to a lack of sponsorship funding it will cease operation of
the team's #40 Sprint Cup Series (NSCS) Dodge driven by Dario
Franchitti beginning this weekend in Daytona. "This is a difficult
decision for Felix and I that did not come without its share of
anguish," said Team Owner Chip Ganassi. "In this tough business
environment continuing to run the car without proper funding has
become increasingly difficult." CGRFS is committed to Franchitti's
continued stockcar development and are currently in discussions with
him on his racing options with the team which could include running
the balance of the 2008 Nationwide season in the #40 Fastenal Dodge.
Currently the #42 Texaco/Havoline/Juicy Fruit Dodge of Juan Pablo
Montoya is 21st in owner points while the #41 Target Dodge driven by
Reed Sorenson is sitting 31st in the standings.(CGRFS PR)(7-1-2008)

The really bad part of that deal, is that there are now
71 other people looking for jobs........
That's pretty sad.

The ESPN NASCAR show last night said that the COT requires
fewer people to work on it, so that the job market for
the 71 people is worse now than it would have been with
the COY.

They didn't say anything more than that. Dunno if
it's really a noticeable factor or not.

Don't beleive it. Any team in NASCAR will hire as many people
as the sponsorship dollars available allows. They will find
things for the people to do, CoT or no CoT.

I have to think, too, that fundamentally the 71 folk at Ganassi
lost their jobs because the cars were slow, and have been for
several years. I don't know that all that slowness can be
blamed on the drivers...perhaps the 71 also weren't doing the
best job they possibly could.

But when the sponsorship dollars go
or get thin....

I can tell you for sure, that they are not the only ones
that have let people go...
There are some 'big' teams that laid people off,
I know of 35 that went from a big GM team...

Stuff like that just doesn't always make the news,
because the team is still racing and it may never get out
to the public that there was a workforce reduction...

Yep, that's exactly the point. The number of people employed
is dependant on the sponsorship dollars, not the characteristics
of the car they're using.
