So I guess "retired" to him means getting new tires. 8^)

LOL. Seems like you're right.

I think this probably will not work out well (altho Martin's name
value may be good for Hendrick when he's selling sponsorships).
Martin may be better than Mears, but he'll still be the weakest
driver on a 4 car team (I base that on his results compared to
Earnhardt last year, and Truex this year and last, in DEI cars).
I don't see Martin being a championship contender, and I do see
him getting frustrated, and remembering round about the second
Michigan why it was he didn't want to be traveling every week.

And that's why I agree with you that this probably isn't going to work
very well. Mark may appear to be a rather easy going, laid back kind
of guy, but if he didn't have a competitive fire burning in him, he
wouldn't be driving Cup cars.

For a long time, he was the top dog at Roush, now he's going to be
fourth in the pecking order at Hendrick. That's got to be a bit of
culture shock. Plus, his role at Hendrick will be quite different
from DEI. With two Cup champions and the most popular guy in the
sport as teammates, there's no one there who needs mentoring.

I'm curious to see how long it takes him to stop commenting about how
much fun he's having.
