DEI Imploding?

DEI Imploding?

>From all the NASCAR websites, it appears that DEI is imploding before our
very eyes. I predicted same when it was announced that Jr was leaving the
company. When I made the prediction, I also said that after the implosion,
Jr would return as the White Knight and save the company from certain
demise. Now, I'm not so sure that he will do so. It is said that Theresa
wants $115-$130 mil for the company without the rights to DE Sr's name or
Intimidator merchandise. I dunno whether Jr has the wherewithal to finance
that kind of purchase or if indeed DEI is worth it.

With the tough economy. it will be an interesting silly season, indeed.

Mike

There's no rush. If DEI is overpriced, no one's gonna
buy it. Jr. can focus on racing for a couple of years
and just wait until the fruit is ripe for plucking.

(I'm hoping that's how it works out.)

IMHO without DE Sr's name and Intimidator merchandise DEI is virtually
worthless.

Good luck madam.

If Jr. comes back, he will add (return?) value to the
franchise.

Tony Stewart is showing the way. It's old school--I think
I'm thinking of Junior Johnson, but I think there were other
drivers who turned into owners. Oh, I guess Richard Petty
counts in that gang. Earnhardt Sr. Kulwicki probably
doesn't count as a precedent, but I remember him fondly
and wish he could have lived long enough to retire and
run a team. :o(

Childress too, for all that.....mayhap not much of a driver, but was a
driver before being an owner....
Penske, of course, but his driving days were open wheel.
And most significantly from Smoke's standpoint, A J Foyt.

Re: DEI Imploding?

Funny how things turn out..

Richard Petty, Cale Yarbourough, Bobby Allision, Darrell Waltrip...
Hundreds of victories as drivers....few as owner/operators...

Richard Childress 0 wins as a driver...

I'm wondering if it's like the old thing in baseball that guys who
make good managers were often marginal players.

I don't know why (maybe it's the Peter Prinicple in action).

take care,
Scott

Actually, that would be just the opposite of the Peter Principle, wouldn't
it?

Re: DEI Imploding?

Yep Childress was never a superstar driver, but has the same reputation like
Joe Torre of the Yankees.

Joe was never a superstar as a player, one of the best managers of all time!

LOL, umm, stick to Nascar. He only had an MVP to his name and was a solid
player.

Geez... you have high standards, I guess...
He was an all-star 9 times, National League MVP,
hit .297 lifetime, and hit 252 dingers.
May not be "A-Rod" numbers, but man... not too shabby....

And then, of course, you get the exception that proves the rule:

Jr Johnson, 50 wins as a driver, 132 wins as an owner.
