Au contraire. All the MLB uniforms are made by Majestic--the caps are
made by New Era. Rawlings makes all the MLB baseballs, which must be
first rubbed with "Lena Blackburne's Rubbing Mud", harvested from a
secret location on the Delaware River (I'm not making that up)
NFL jerseys are all made by Reebok. Helmets are made by Ridell, and
the balls are made by Wilson.
You're right that in baseball, there is no "required" bat or glove,
although each player generally has a contract with the individual
companies (usually the one who will make the best deal for the
individual player).
As far as shoes go, teams are usually required to pick a particular
color (which is why all the Oakland A's wear white shoes, and all the
Minnesota Vikings wear black shoes). AFAIK, no major sport requires a
particular brand of shoes.

They do pay for the tires, and I believe they pay for the gas as
well.
I really don't have a problem with the "spec" tire and gas rules in
Cup racing. I remember back when they had the "Hoosier/Goodyear" tire
war (back in the early 90's or late 80's). Both companies pushed the
boundries of what a safe tire was in an effort to make a "fast" tire.
The result was a lot of torn up race cars.
As far as the spec gas goes, I know F1 had a real problem with
companies supplying "pump gas" which was in fact closer to rocket fuel
or nitromethane than gasoline :-) I don't know that they've gone to a
spec fuel, but they're pretty tight on what is allowed. Having just a
single supplier makes it easier to monitor exactly what is going in
the gas.
take care,
