Manufacturers staying

Jayski is reporting that it appears like all of the manufacturers
currently participating in the Cup series are satisfied with the
return they are getting on their investment and none will be pulling
out. The article says Ford gets a 400% return on its NASCAR
investment.

No ROI figure is reported for Chevy, Dodge or Toyota, but the gist of
the whole article is that everyone considers their NASCAR investment
worth the money.

I guess the cars on the track don't have to look like the ones in the
showroom......

Watching snippets from the Indy 400 on NASCAR now, I noticed
how slab-sided the COT is. It was Jr's car that looked the
worst. Other paint schemes must disguise the flat sides
better. Once I noticed it, it bugged me to no end.

I heard people talking about it even with the COY, but I
just hadn't paid attention to it on my own.

Oh, well. Maybe I can go back to not noticing. I imagine
that the flat sides are here to stay.

Cup cars have been slab-sided since the mid-to-late 80's IIRC

I wouldn't be surprised to hear that.

I went to Jayski and browsed 2006 vs. 2008 paint schemes.

As I suspected, many of them paint the lower side panel
(skirt?) black. It makes the cars look thinner top
to bottom on the side.

I didn't notice Jr's sponsor at Indy. Amp? Nat'l Guard?
Both designs have got the side mostly in white and I
think that's why it caught my eye. Or maybe there was
an odd camera angle.

I'll live with it, I guess. ;o)

I was gonna say that :-)

Actually, the Busch cars were slabbier than the Cup cars, and
the last few years of the aero car didn't look so slabby, because
the front fenders were warped to such an extreme degree.
