THE opening of London Heathrow Airport's $9.4 billion Terminal 5 has ended
in chaos, with its new baggage handling system suspended and dozens of
flights cancelled

And they're putting up the landing fees to pay for this lot...

I loved the comment this morning...

"The security staff who man the passenger security points were caught up in
the employees queue for the staff security checks, and so opened late..."

And apparently there was not enough car parking for employees! Talk about
basic...

No different than many others. See Denver International, Bangkok,
etc. etc. More the norm than an exception. The only one I remember
being basically flawless was Inchon. Which is why no one ever heard
anything about it's opening.

That always was a clever fiddle to build on just about the last big open
space in East London...

But if/when the Dome failed, it did not really affect anything else, just
itself and national/govt pride.
The T5 issue is causing delayed and cancelled flights, ruined holidays,
missed business, lost luggage and yet more damage to BA's tattered
reputation, i.e. a lot more than some odd-shaped exhibition centre or
whatever the Dome was supposed to be at the time.

And oddly the reborn O2 Dome seems to be turning into London's number 1
concert venue so perhaps is finally a success (though I was most unimpressed
by the acoustics on my one concert visit, so may not go back).

very true but still temporary

probably because it now has roadsigns, a carpark and puts on the
things people want to see.

I had no problems with T3 when I went thru in the first week on my way to
Amsterdam..
I wish it had a swimming pool like terminal 1. The showers are a great
refresher anyway.
cheers

A friend went through in the first few days and probably quite a few times
since. He said did not like the shade of the carpets. Some bags missed
connections in the early days. Otherwise the usual Singapore efficiency.
