With the advent of cheap airlines and the high petrol prices applying now it
is often cheaper to fly unless you have a carload of people. Rail and bus
passes are often a good deal for overseas visitors, and this is a more
eco-friendly form of travel than use of cars.

We don't have gas stations here, they are petrol stations. Believe it or
not, restaurants, supermarkets and "gas" stations do exist outside major
cities.

Yes you can apply online directly via the Immigration Department and avoid
the additional fees charged by National Visas.
