1998 ford contour won't start

1998 ford contour won't start

My 17 yr. old was driving his car, a 1998 ford contour when all the
dash board lights came and the car stalled. he coasted into a parking
lot. Local PD officer stated he thought it was a dead battery (I'm a
firefighter at work and couldn't leave) He attempted to jump the car
no luck on starting. I had a buddy go look at it and he states the car
is turning over , just not starting any suggestions where I should
start looking for the problem

I had similar problems at times with an older Taurus and the problem
was the dimmer switch. I know that sounds crazy but most if the
dimmer switch on the left of the steering wheel shorts out, it causes
this problem. You should be able to take the switch apart fairly easy
and determine if this is the problem.
