Chili stains

Chili stains

Hi, new to this group and hoping someone can help us. We recently
purchased a food processor. My wife made up a chili sauce using whole
chilies in the processor. Now the bowl [plastic] is stained. Washing and
soaking with dish washing detergent is not getting rid of the stain. Has
anyone here had experience with this and successfully been able to
remove the stain.
Any advice gratefully appreciated.

Personally, I think it's better to live with stains that will
eventually wear off than it is to scratch up the bowl with overly
abrasive materials. -aem

Sunlight. The stain has penetrated the plastic,
and no abrasive or chemical bleach will be effective
without causing worse damage.

Oxygen bleach, or even hydrogen peroxide, may help to oxidize the stain and
will not hurt the plastic. Do not use chlorine bleach (Clorox).

Hey TR, you beat me to the punch... when I stain my cutting boards I
just set them outside for a day or so and it gets it really nice and
bright:) I was at a Pampered Chef party and was given that bit of
info. Although I'll wash it in cold water first to get it clean. Hot
water makes it set... but then you can stick it outside:)
cheers!

Sunlight clouds and eventually yellows the plastic.

Short of fire, sunlight is about the worst thing you can expose
plastic to.

Hi Wayne,

Is that stuff available in your area? I ask because I cannot
find it any longer, and have heard that it may no longer be
distributed at all.

Thanks,

Kenneth, I bought 2 bottles a couple of months ago, so I assume it's still
out there,. However, as fast as things change, it could be off the shelves
by now.

I Googled it and the first page of hits seem to show hardware stores and
Amazon to be sources.

Have you noticed that cleaning products are coming and going
faster than you can keep track? Every time I find a product
I really like, I can no longer replace it.

Dawn changes formula and odors every time I buy it. It is very
hard to find a citrus/orange all purpose cleaner now. I can no
longer find Glass Plus which I preferred to Windex. Dang.

Gloria, you might try looking for Bissell Multi-Purpose Cleaner. It comes
in two formulations, one with vinegar and one with ammonia. I prefer the
vinegar formulation for most things. They also make an After Shower
Cleaner (the type you spray on right after showering, with no scrubbing).
I've found all of these products to perform very effectively, and they are
considerably less expensive than the big name brands.

Thanks, Wayne. I'll look for that. Be aware that it's a sure way to
make sure they stop manufacturing it, however.
