Big Quake In China

To all our friends in China - we hope you are all well and safe.
Please let the group know if you are in need of help and how we can be
of assistance.
In the USA, the Red Cross is accepting donations and forwarding them
to Red Cross China.

Re: Big Quake In China

I'm still alive!! All is well in Fujian. Never felt a thing. I never
knew there was such a serious earthquake until I turned on my computer
and saw the news. Shocking. Earthquakes sometimes also hit Fujian, but
I never notice or feel anything.

Building construction in China is kind of shoddy. They use very soft
clay bricks which they then coat over with cement to give a smooth
surface. They do use rebar when they pour concrete - but maybe not
enough. Buildings look good on the outside, and may have a nicely
finished interior. But within the walls... not good. So it's not
surprising so many buildings collapsed. I would feel safer in a mud-
brick and wood/bamboo post house like the kind people still use in the
countryside.
