Undercounter wine cooler
I am replacing the old appliances in my kitchen and I would like to
replace the trash compactor with a wine cooler. I would like to know
if anyone has any experience with any of the following wine coolers:
Sunpentown WC-32U
Cavavin CAV32N
Avanti WC3201D
Haier HVC15ABB

I have seen the Haier in BJ's, but not one the size that will replace
a trash compactor. I have thought of that idea for 30 bottles myself
as I don't have the inclination to age wine. It will make good use of
the space you want to convert.
One contractor (who was doing that kind of work) said that he thought
I should replace the space with a cabinet. My thought is that one
would have to weigh the price that the contractor would be charging
vs. the cost of slip-sliding in a wine cabinet for 30 bottles.
Somehow I think the wine cabinet would be a more usable space than a
couple of 24" x 24" cabinets. Of course, with that particular size,
one would need pull-out drawers, adding another cost to the space.
Actually I think a 30-bottle wine cooler is a pretty good trade-off as
far as usable space.
Alas, sorry, but I've had no experience with wine coolers, -- nor
1,000 bottle stashes :-))) Wouldn't mind that either.

Completely agreed. We only have around 600-700 bottles; perhaps 10-15%, of them
at any given time, are whites, sparklers, and dessert wines. But we only keep
four at a time in the kitchen refrigerator, and another few in the old garage
beer/soda/general storage refrigerator. Unless you're preparing for a special
occasion, I can't imagine why you'd want to keep more than a handful cold. It
does nothing beneficial for the wine, so it seems like a waste of energy.
OTOH, it might be handy to have a place to keep a dozen or so bottles of red in
the kitchen.

Completely agreed. We only have around 600-700 bottles; perhaps 10-15%, of them
at any given time, are whites, sparklers, and dessert wines. But we only keep

In one of there restaurants: I've never had BBQ that I cared for. I'm
not even a 'real' meat eater. WOW! We ordered the biggest order of
4 different meats. We took home and had enough for 3 more meals! Now
I know what brisket really tastes like. A woman who was sitting there
(from North Carolina) told me she had never had it so good.
Unbelievable! And of course, you could order beer. They have several
restaurants/bars therewhere you see them cooking your food. As I
recall, a fish bar -- salmon for $9 looked really good. Pinot Noir
was the only choice. The cheese bar/restaurant, they only served
Pinot Noir (Oregon) -- not my favorite. They said they change the
wines, but as I had gone one month without RED wine, I was ready for
some, and was disappointed and had to have beer with dinner. Then DH
found this upstairs wine tasting room.
The meat cases are huge and of course, all supposed to be organic.
Lots of sausages DH likes. There seem to be more breads than in the
other WF's, more pastries, more everything. You will like it.
Wegman's, Fairfax, is fairly close by.

If you calcuate the price per ounce, that's probably right, but it is
there for sale at $358 - as I recall.
DH nor I wrote it down -- too expensive. Maybe if they reduced it to
$12 an ounce, I'd try it. Perhaps!

I've tasted it, but we don't have a single bottle stashed -- too expensive for
me too. Plus when they get that sweet, there are a busload of Austrian
Beerenausleses and Trockenbeerenausleses that taste just as good and cost a tiny
fraction of Yquem's price, IMO.
Not to mention a lot of California varietal dessert wines, both white and red.
And Canadian Eisweins.
