Newbie question

Newbie question

I just bought an old car with a modern stereo, a Panasonic CQ-C1300U if it
matters. The stereo turns on and reads CDs. However, it makes no noise at
the speakers. Any time the stereo is on, there are 12-13 mV and 5-6 mA,
steady, at the speakers. No voltage or current when the stereo is off. I
attached a known-good speaker and got no noise.

Can anyone explain how to continue the diagnosis of this problem?

My next step would be to see if the fm radio works and makes sounds in the
speakers.

IF there is no sound when the AM/FM radio is on, then it sounds to me like
you've got a bad head unit. I would try swapping out the radio.

The only other scenario where the radio would be on and playing but no sound
coming out is if you have a blown speaker somewhere. I realize you have
tested with a known-good speaker, but if one of the other 3 speakers is
blown it could cause the stereo to not play.
