Need help in replacing headunit in 2000 Camry XLE

Reply from: Frank

The 2000 Camry XLE has the premium JBL sound system with a separate amp. The
existing Camry radio/6 CD changer went south and I'm replacing it with a new
head unit. So I have questions:

1 Is the amp located behind the glove compartment for the 2000 Camry XLE?

2 Where can I get pinout and interconnection diagram information for the
XLE? I might just ended up tracing the wires one by one, but if information
is available, I would appreciate it.

3 The new headunit has preamp outputs for both the front and back
speakers. Is it better to use the existing JBL amp or use the integrated amp
on the headunit? Ok, I could try it both ways and found out, assume I get
this far.

I've Googled and found very little information on the XLE relative
switching the JBL sound system to a conventional headunit so thank you in
advance for any instructions or advice.

A good source of information can be found a w w w .crutchfield . com .

* tinyurl . com /38pxed

This is a PDF file and shows wire colors etc. Apparently Crutchfield
sells wiring adapters to make your installation easier also.

I believe there is a amp bypass harness on the right side inside the dash
where you removed the radio.
The bypass harness is the standard Toyota harness
Then you can use the standard Toyota harness (metra 70-1761) to wire to
aftermarket unit

The audio guy at Fry's helped me to locate the Metra 70-8113 integration
harness. Its was too easy, no need tear the car apart or locate the JBL amp.
The Toyota OEM premium JBL amp didn't sound all that good but the wife is
happy to have her stereo back plus many extra features on the new headunit.
Oh well, I might just tear everything out and put in a real sound system
next time.
